Infra-Red Heating

3\6kw Infra-red pendant heater

Electric quartz heating is a unique concept which perfectly suits a variety of heating requirements providing instant and directional radiant heat with a sun-like warming effect. Quartz heat warms people or objects and not the air in between and will not blow away like all other forms of heating. Quartz technology provides an economic and low-cost form of heating allowing efficient energy saving through safe and effective heat distribution. The conversion of virtually all consumed electrical power into heat means that hardly any energy is wasted.

Quartz heating is extremely flexible. The African Thatch Company offer an extensive range of undercover and waterproof outdoor heating products in various heat outputs. Quartz heaters can be installed quickly by a suitably qualified electrician with little or no disruption.

Quartz heaters offer instant and directional heat with no initial warm up time. Virtually no energy is absorbed by the air, which means that a high degree of heat is achieved while no energy is wasted. Quartz heaters are efficient as they heat only the people and objects within the beam and not the air in between.

Quartz heaters require very low maintenance and have a very long lamp life averaging 7,000 hours, with the exception being the Algarve with an average of 1,100 hours. Heaters remain effective over time, maintaining a constant level of heat throughout their life.

Quartz heaters are completely safe with silent and odourless operation which creates no by-products of combustion. They consume no oxygen, so no additional ventilation is required. Quartz heaters are safe for children, pets and the environment.

Quartz heaters have a clean operation with no air circulation which can stir and deposit dust. This means that the heaters are ideal for many uses in numerous varied applications within domestic, industrial, commercial and retail settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is quartz heating?

A. Quartz heaters work like the sun, radiating their heat instantly to the person or objects within their beam. It is the most effective way to warm people, as there is no warm up period. Also, as the air in between remains unheated no heat is lost to draughts, open doors or high roof spaces. This form of heating is ideal in open sided buildings as the heating can be zoned and controlled.

Q. Are the heaters expensive to run?

A. No. Compared to traditional outdoor gas heaters, electric quartz heaters can be up to 70% cheaper to operate, and require no cylinders.

Q. How long does it take before the quartz heaters are fully effective?

A. They are 92% radiant efficient within one second of switching on.

Q. Are quartz heaters safe to use?

A. Yes. Philips and GE infrared quartz lamps are similar in operation and safety requirements to normal Halogen floodlight lamps, and as such, given normal, correct usage are a low-risk product.

Q. Is there any UV output from these lamps?

A. No. electric quartz heaters project pure infra-red heat.

Q. How long do the quartz lamps last?

A. Depending upon the type of heater and its use, the lamps have an average life span of 7,000 hours, the exception being the Algarve where they average 1,100 hours; with a constant level of heat throughout their life.

Q. Are quartz heaters suitable for outdoor use?

A. Yes, quartz heaters produce the only type of heat which is instant, directional and does not blow away. Also, as they do not use gas they are completely safe to use. Our range of quartz heaters are suitable for outdoor use, and which have been specially coated to prevent rust.

Q. Do quartz heaters emit any light?

A. Yes. As a by-product 9% of the output is light, which gives a gentle illumination.

Q. Can your fitters install quartz heating when erecting a thatched structure?

A. This depends on your location. Connecting an electrical supply to a thatched structure in your garden is normally a straightforward task. Since January 1st 2005 all electrical work must be completed in accordance with IEE wiring regulations and BS7671. All electrical work carried out must be completed by an operator who is approved under the Part P Electrical Competent Person Scheme (Namely a qualified electrician). For local installations (up to 30 mile radius) we can arrange the connection of an electricity supply and the connection of quartz heating products to your thatched building by a qualified electrician. Over this distance we recommend that you consult a locally approved electrician.
